Attaching roofing felt

Do you guys have a better way of attaching the roofing flet to your hives other than stappeling it to the boxes. I didn't want to have to pull out all those staples in the spring.

Start with one staple in the middle of the end of the tar paper. Carefully wrap the paper around creasing the paper around the corners and finish with one staple to hold the wrapped end. Then use 1/8" thick wood strips to staple the overlapped ends. STAPLE HEAVY. The wood strip when removed will pull all the staples with it except for the initial two. Two is no big deal. lol
So far this method for me has sustained 50 MPH winds.

I use thumb tacks a lot less trauma than a staple gun.

I am not sure where the 1/8" wood strips go. Top and bottom around all four sides of the box or the vertical seam that you did your first and last staples in?

I used push pins one year and they worked well. Push pins are time consuming to use and get expensive if one starts dealing with 20+ hives. But if you are looking to wrap 1 or 2 hives, give them a try!

Another tip - be sure to use the 15# paper (not 30#). You'd think the heavier paper would be better, but much harder to fold around corners and staple to boxes. I just staple - quick, easy, no trouble removing in spring. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I like to wrap completely around and where they overlap, I tack on a strip of thin wood like lath. For added support, I tie a couple loops of twine around near top and bottom.

Use black electrical to affix. Less than $1 and a roll will do three hives. Make a loop near the top and near the bottom, around the toal hive. Overlap tape the full width of the hive and press overlap tape together.

My hives are well out of the wind and this worked last winter.

It's easy to staple, Thats what I did. Pins and tape are easy also.

I use Duct tape.Here we call it hutchy tape,because hutchy used 5 rolls to hold his bike together after he lost the bolts.Hilarious his dad bout killed him.

Do they still sell those thin metal disks made specifically to disperse the pressure of the fastener over more surface area of tarpaper? They make a world of difference in the holding power of the fastener in heavy wind. Cheap, too.

I use reflectix insulation, but I put a small piece of thin cardboard (like cereal box stuff) where I'm gonna staple, and staple through it.
I haven't had any rips, and you it pulls off easy in the spring.
