Royal jelly inhibits growth of Clostridium, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus
Mechanism of Action of Recombinant Acc-Royalisin from Royal Jelly of Asian Honeybee against Gram-Positive Bacteria
Royalisin, a potent antimicrobial peptide (AMP), was first isolated from royal jelly of the Western honeybee Apis mellifera . Royalisin strongly inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria including Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Leuconostoc, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus at the effective concentration of 1 µM. Royalisin also inhibits other Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis, Sarcina lutea, American foulbrood caused by a Gram-positive bacterial pathogen, Paenibacillus larvae larvae , .
