    Default Best queens for northeast

    Hey all;
    Any recommendations for a good queen breeder? I need a queen who can over-winter here in CT and who is also hopefully an industrious girl- carniolan perhaps?

    This time of the year, one you can get! Look, People make too much of which queen to use. I have 300 hives, all Wilbanks Italians with some Hygenic Italian stock. I am always at the front of the pack when it comes to overwintering and per colony production. The difference, CARE. Wilbanks should have some left. 912-739-4820.

    Sorry Adam ,but I disagree.
    As one who doesn't treat for mites,I like Russians over Italians.They take some managment during swarm season but don't need feed in July and overwinter on less. Those Italians do make honey ,no question,But overall I think Russians are less work.
    Dan Conlan in Deerfield MA will have Russian Q's next year.He just joined Russian breeders Assc.

    I and a couple of friends have had good results with Michael Palmer's queens (and daughter queens). You can requeen your hives next Summer.

    Otherwise get something more local.

    If you needed queens now I'd try for Carniolans from California.

    I bought a great queen last year from http://vtbees.com/, Singing Cedars in Orwell, Vermont and have heard great things about Warm Colors queens as well. Good luck.

    I didn't read any immediacy in Jengalill's question.

    Besides,why wouldn't a northern breeder have an extra queen now?
