Default What do the varroa mites look like on bottom board?

    Hi all:
I just pulled my screen bottom board that I had on for few days to do a mite count. It is hard for me to tell what is what. Do the Varroa look like little square black things? I have some of those and then looks like lots of pollen dust. If someone would be so kind to post a picture. I googled varroa but the pictures looks super magnified. If you could describe them or show me a link to a picture with them that would be great. Thank you in advance!

Varroa are little red blobs. They almost look like a drop of red nail polish. Here is a photo of some on my bees: Notice the bee in the center at the top.

    Hi Sally,
I am planning to be at SGG tomorrow (Sunday) for a second round of mite treatments. I hope to get there around 11 and will leave around noon...or a little after. If it is convenient and you'd like to bring your sheets by, I'll be happy to take a look at them.

Thank you Dan for the kind offer, but I saw this post a little too late!

Thank you to the others for the pictures!

I counted 37 mites with my magnifying glass. I'm sure I missed a few. This is a 36 hour drop taken on an untreated hive on 9-2-2012
