Gallon Jars Wanted

They make gallon size mason jars? Know about half gallon, but never knew there was a gallon size. I need some too,,lol. Will look into this.

I'm not positive, but I think you'll find the gallon size is only available with wide mouth jars. Good Luck

Ive seen old ones as ive described. Im not sure if they make them anymore either but id think they gotta be out there somewhere. If any of yall have wide mouth im interested in them too.

I have 6 old old old, mason regular 1 gallons. We run several hundred half gallon regulars. They were a pita to find

Alright thanks guys i guess ill just buy some Half gallon new ones somewhere didnt really want to poke a huge hole in my lids for the wide mouth jars anyway.

Don't cut a hole the size of the widemouth lid...Just use a smaller hole and set the jar on top over the hole. It is more water tight this way too and stays off the frames. I use half gallon widemouth jars all the time. Quarts are almost a waste of time to fill except for mini mating nucs. I make top screened inner covers and set the inverted jar right on the screen. Poke holes in the wide mouth lid, then invert it so the bees can reach the syrup through the screen. Cover with an empty super and lid. No more holes in the lids.
Up side is no more holes in the lids, warmer syrup and no robbing. Down side is you can't see at a glance how fast the hives are taking it up.

Do you want to know the difference between take up with a regular lid and a wide mouth lid? WHen I have syrup that is close to fermenting, I set it out for the bees to clean up. All these jars were filled this morning, all the same batch of syrup. I poke about 30 holes in the lids with my leather awl and a small upholstery hammer.

I see a commercial guy in Livermore using what appears to be plastic one gallon pickle jar looking containers to feed, and they are spray painted black. From the distance I was at it didn't look like wide mouths either. Why paint them black though? I would think it would cause fermentation, or maybe it slows the fermentation?

I wish I could find a cheap one gallon square feeder jug that didn't leak or break and 6 or so would fit nice in a milk crate. I don't care what size the top is I place them directly on migratory tops that have a 1 inch hole drilled in them.

I didn't get to finish. I think he paints them black to stop sunlight from destroying his medication in the syrup.

If you are still looking and I doubt it, go to specialtybottle.com They have gallons with lids for $3.96. Shipping is as always a concern you would have to evaluate. I ordered some flip top glass bottles and they got them right out to me. They have all the boutiquey bottles and jars you would ever possibly need.

The local Scott's paint store sells new 1 gallon paint cans and lids for $1.97.
