I've heard that when using Api-guard or other thymol products that the screened bottom board has to be closed
Is this so and if so how is the SBB board closed?

i just insert the sticky board in which effectively closes the screen

Scroll down to "Testing MAQS in California", and take a look at the bar graph of his results. He got good mite kill on screened bottoms with both MAQS and Apiguard.
yes and he has left the sticky board in the SBB
If your screened bottom board did not come with a corrugated sheet to slide underneath you can buy one or make one. You can cut a piece of cardboard so that it slides underneath you sbb and blocks airflow. It won't fit tightly to the bottom but will work well enough.
