Default Question I Thought Of Today (Probably Not Original)

Maybe this goes in the Tailgater, but I don't think so.

Here's my question: If I offered you a pill for free, that you could swallow one time with no side effects at all, and the pill made it where you never had to eat again to stay healthy and fit, and you would never get hungry again, but you never could eat anything again or it would kill you, would you take the pill, or not?

It would be foolish to take the pill. Think about what would happen when a bug flies into your mouth, and you end up swallowing it.

No you can't have beer either.

And it is crazy hot here, with highs around 110-112 every day and lows in the high 80s. So it could be the heat.

But I still think it's an interesting question. (I actually thought of this question as an analogy to explain to two of my D.I.N.K. co-workers why it is better to have kids than not.)

Correction: It looks like we are supposed to get a cold front, so it's only going to be 106 on Friday.

Mark, it depends who you ask. Would it be better to not have to buy food, prepare it, clean up afterwards and miss out on the experience of eating? Probably depends who you ask. Nobody seems to have an opinion, so I reckon it's not such a good question.

I would never give up the pleasure of eating. And, yes, I would have answered this differently in TG.

Your idea may apply to those that have a serious problem with weight gain if they eat almost anything. It must be heartbreaking to be obese and it seems there is nothing to do about it except to almost starve.

Gathering, preparing, cooking and eating food is almost a ritual and a part of the human fabric and culture. When a man and a woman meet, eventually they will have to prepare a dining experience together rather than going to a fine restaurant for a candle light dinner. This is a part of the bonding experience between a man and a woman that is almost "sexual" in nature,..,... Going out shopping together to the local grocery for that hamburger, steak or shrimp, and other condoments [I mean condiments] and discussing how to prepare it and doing all the chopping, chatting, mixing, sauteeing, and "socializing" is almost like,..well you know the rest,.. Who would want to "take a pill" to avoid all that? Even between a long time married husband and wife, the preparation of "food" around a romantic dinner can mend the most grievous of disagreements.

What about the relationship between the mother and her child when she feeds it, or the father,..when he,.. "brings home the bacon"?

What about "Thanksgiving" and other holidays and all that wholesome family bonding around the dinner table with your mother-in-law and other in-laws'?

What about when one provides food for the family pet, or puts out seeds for the birds?

Forget the pill, we have enough "pills" already.
