Most new beekeepers do open the hive to often but how else are you going to learn, while doing the inspections treat the hive like a book and read every page (frame) that next time try and remember what you read last time and see what is different.
I wish all our new beekeepers did look more often, we have had NUBS tell us my hive died and when asking them what they saw their reply is there was right smart of bees at the entrance 2 weeks ago and when I ask what did you see inside they give a blank stare so yes you will look to often but do it and learn.
