Package was hived in April '12 in new Lang. Its been going very strong, we have moved frames of brood from this hive to nucs, it has been our most healthy robust hive this year. I open up today to take some honey and I get a nasty surprise. I pulled some of the larvae out and put in isopropanol, from about 10 drone brood came 2 mites sinking to the bottom, but I dont think mites caused this problem, maybe some kind of foulbrood? It wasnt sticky or gross, just black with dead bees. WVMJ first year beekeeper.
