    Default Fencing veil failure

    Anyone have any suggestions?
I had that fencing veil top on today and got nailed on my-right ear lobe and chin.
I then opening the veil up and packed my ear with veil like material as a barrier. They seem to like my right ear and hang out and hover around my ear.
Later, then veil got too close to my chin (after packing my ear) and sure enough she nailed me on my chin! Worst part was that the venom unit was still in both sites the whole time! The veil didn't even pull out the venom unit!
Anyone have and similar problems? Maybe my head is just plan to fat and round?
I hate to ""disrobe"" just for one sting to get the sac out and let alone get stung...

My suggestion, buy a bee veil. You need protection against a stinger not a sword.

It's the one featured on the cover of Dandant's 2012 catalog.

Even in a suit I get pegged in the chin every now and then.

I wear a pit helmet ( from Mann Lake) and it keeps the veil away - works!

I wear shorts and a T-shirt, when I don't pay close attention, I get stung once in awhile. Sometimes on the ear, nose, neck, back of head, forehead - nothing much worse than bumping my finger with a hammer while driving nails.

That's why I don't use fencing-style bee veils anymore. I now use Dadant's full body cricket suit, and in my opinion, there is none better.

Edit: Sorry, it's not the cricket suit. Here is the link to the page: http://www.dadant.com/catalog/produc...roducts_id=767

I will say that Blue Sky Bee Supply has nice deep fencing-style-veil full body suits if you really prefer that style.

I'd try to convert you to a tulle veil, but not sure you'd go for such a flimsy veil. I sure like mine. Stiff veils are way to confining.

Try washing. You may have attach pheromones on it.

I went back out to that swarm yesterday to finish them off and I wore that folding veil, top of page 37 of the Dandant catalog.

Not one single sting! Got them all vacuumed up and had no problems with them getting nasty at me.

Boy did my chin swell up! I looked like I had another 20lbs and talk about a 3rd chin. There practically wasn't any neck left! Oh, and did the wife have fun with that!

I'm a little wary of that fencing veil. I even wore a baseball cap to push it forward to give me some space. My wife suggest installing an embroidery hoop or sewing hoop into it. Heck I just don't want to get nailed again on the face! I'll gladly give up an arm or a hand but sorry girls; stingers off the face!

Ditto, Efaure. I got stung in the exact same place several weeks ago and had the same type of reaction: triple chin, looked like I put on an extra 20-30 pounds! Everyone thought it was hilarious. I did too, just not as enthusiasticly.

When I first bought my hat and veil I read as much as I could about what people liked. I passed on the fencing veil because the bees could sit right on your head and sting through the top.

Fast forward to 2012. I bought a bee suit. My dad had purchased a jacked with a zippered fencing veil earlier in the year. I used his jacket a couple of times and liked the fencing veil so I bought my suit with a zippered fencing veil. I did buy it from a different company so this could be a factor, but I soon found out why I had chosen not to get one in the first place. Bees sit right on your head and sting through the top. The cloth sits right on the side of your head as well (also a good place to get stung).

I also bought my daughter a suit. However, I ordered it with the round veil that will keep the bees further away from her face and head. Unfortunately, it is still on back order so I cannot borrow the veil. I will soon the replacing the fencing veil with a round veil on mine.

The old plastic hat and folding veil I was using over a jacket did not work well for me this year. The first 2 years it worked just fine and I never had a bee under the veil. This year I had at least 4 bees in the veil and that was just not pleasant.
