Default Bug Spray for working Cut Outs

It sounds silly to me - but I was curious about putting on some light bug spray before working cutouts and hotter hives? I know that getting the spray on the hive parts and tools would be bad news. I was thinking about spraying my face and myself a little bit before suiting up. That way it won't rub onto the hive.

I am going to try it today, but I am interested to hear different perspectives on this. I have to re-hive a cutout that I got yesterday.

By the way, I found out that the "Professional Grade Bee Suit" from Pest Mall - is not even close to sting proof, haha. It is well made, and has a great seal (no bees got in!).

Overall not bad for $65 and free shipping.

strong smells tend to set them off I wouldn't. You may not have noticed but if you put suger syrup out several feet from hive it takes a long time for them to find it you add lemon juice or lemon grass or most anything that smells and they are on it fast. Smell is important for them to find things in working a hive you should not want to be found...

    My 2 cents

True. I've been considering both sides. It's hard for me to tell (with no technical knowledge) if the smell would repel them even if it makes them mad, or if it just makes them mad and makes them want to sting faster. I guess either way that is a good point, putting a certain smell on myself like bug spray would make it easier for them to follow after me when I need a break.

Not sure why or how it would help? most sprays are for biting insects looking to make a meal from your blood. not the case here

You could try spraying yourself with Bee-Go.

Wear a light long sleeve shirt under your suit, drink plenty of water.

You could just have someone vomit on you, too. Still sounds silly.

If a worker is bent on stinging you, she'll push right through any odor on you to make it happen. I agree that the odor would likely incite more stings than it would prevent IMO.
