    Default How many brood boxes?

Im in NC, started 2 new hives from nucs in May. I have a friend who has had bees for 70 years! He is suggesting that I use one brood box a QE and then med super. All i have read is, two broods are the way to go. I just dont know. Any thoughts on the subject for this area of the country?

I use a deep with mediums over that with no QE. I am phasing in the use of a shallow as a pollen box to go under the deep. -js

Depends on where you are. I personally believe letting the bees decide what they want as their brood nest is best. I don't touch anything inside of two deeps and a medium here in Vermont. That is their's and anything they do outside of that is mine.

I sometimes enjoy doing unlimited brood nest. Otherwise I recommend two deeps.
