I think normal hive temp is pushing 90. So I guess about 95 and above it starts to get bad. Especially extremely sunny days. (permeating infrared)
I have noticed that my combs will flex a little but as long as i hold it vertically there isn't much problem.
In your hive, the more space between the roof and the bars, the less likely you will have heat transfer down to your bars.
Putting hives under deep shade trees (in the middle of an open meadow...) seems to have been a "big win" since the hives themselves are protected from mid-day sun in the spring, summer and fall. It's noticeably cooler in the shade, which is also great when you're out there working with them.
