    Default Summer split

I have 15 bars of brood - if I use 3 to 4 for the split and give it the queen my 1st hive should go all out to store honey
If I have to feed this fall can I use dry surgar
Would 20 lbs take the place of 3 bars of honey
I know sugar does not equal honey
How much honey is needed for winter
    Northern wi
    Carni bees
Winters are long but not super cold

If you split the bees are going to have to rebuild population (in the old and new hive) so they won't be able to produce as much honey..

Don't know if dry sugar is good or not. But syrup (2sugar 1 water) is what I am feeding my split. My split is 3-4 bars and they eat a pint every 2-3 days! Just put it in a jar with some sticks for access and put it near or in the hive. I don't know how much a full hive will eat during winter.
You can also feed them honey if you want to splurge.

I just made my splits and am trying to boost comb construction. I put a feeder on one hive last night to see how they would like it. After having my bees stop taking the feed during the honey flow, I don't know if they are desperate enough to take it. So I mixed a 1:1 syrup and added a few tablespoons of honey. I got the honey for free, and personally I don't care for it's flavor much. But it's amazing how just a little honey made the whole batch of syrup smell strong like the honey. My hope is that the smell will aid in convincing the bees to take it. I intentionally spilled some on the landing board last night as I put the feeder on, and bees on the board immediately took to it. I'm hoping to see the feeder signifIcantly drawn down tonight.

I would have 11 to 12 bars of brood in my 1st hive
Dequeening is a old method of getting a hive to gather a lot of a flow.
No queen all the bees gather

All the foragers would go back to the 1st hive so would have lots of bees in it
They could make a queen or would requeen

M bush talks about dry sugar
I used when my pkg got here this spring
The feeding I was talking about was in the fall in case no fall flow for the split
I Didnt mention i. Lost the queen in one of my 2 pkgs. so the queen less hive without brood drifted to my remaining hive
I will slip a bar or 2 in the middle of the brood nest to keep the girls busy before i do the split
I have done this 3 times this spring
