    Default frames per box?

i have 10 frame med honey suppers. i have read to use 10 frames the first time then after extracting and you have the drawn comb you can put just 9 back in and it will fill up with more honey per frame and be easer to un cap . is this something others do? what is you only put 9 empth new frames w/foudation (no drawd comb) in to start with?

You violate bee space and they will make a mess of it.

Why doesn't 9 frames in a 10 frame box also violate bee space? Does the bee space only matter when no foundation currently exists?

It actually does BUT since the comb is already drawn they do not tear it down and rebuild it differently they simply fix the violation by making the cells deeper.

Yes and they still may make a mess of it. I had one do this in a 5 frame nuc and cleaning up one mess was enough for me so now I am back to introducing foundationless between drawn comb to get it drawn, they get it perfect every time.
