Processed and prepared without state inspection
Do you sell your honey with a similar label and what is the response from your buyers?
Private homes where the resident processes and prepares honey produced by his own hives, if:
(i) the resident sells less than 250 gallons of honey annually; (ii) the resident does not process
and sell other food products in addition to honey, except as allowed by subdivision A 3; (iii) the
product complies with the other provisions of this chapter; (iv) the product is labeled
"PROCESSED AND PREPARED WITHOUT STATE INSPECTION. WARNING: Do Not
Feed Honey to Infants Under One Year Old."; and (v) the resident certifies in writing annually
to the Department that he meets the requirements of this subdivision. Nothing in this subdivision

Florida Labeling Requirements
The cottage food law requires specific labeling requirements for the sale of cottage food prod-ucts.
A cottage food opera-tion may only sell cot-tage food products which are prepackaged with a label affixed that contains the following information: (printed in English)
The name and ad-dress of the cottage food operation;
The name of the cot-tage food product;
The ingredients of the cottage food product, in descend-ing order of
predominance by weight;
The net weight or net volume of the cot-tage food product;
Allergen information as specified by fed-eral labeling re-quirements;
If any nutritional claim is made, ap-propriate nutritional information as speci-fied by federal la-beling requirements; and
The following state-ment printed in at least 10-point type in a color that pro-vides a clear contrast to the background label: “Made in a cottage food opera-tion that is not sub-ject to Florida’s food safety regulations.”
A sample is shown be-low and may assist with developing your cottage food product label

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
Each State has different and often contraditing regulations. Each Beekeeper needs to look at both State and also local regs. We are currently building a Licensed Kitchen and Honey House. The problem is that there is a lot of ambiguity in the specifications from multiple agencies. It can be daunting for a small producer but we feel that diversifying our product line will give us a leg up on the competition.

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
Since that added line for processing without state inspection has been added, I have not had one person inquire about it. Unless you are drawing specific attention to it, most people don't take time to read all the labels on the jar. I have not had one lost sale do to having that label.

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
I realize each state and local regulators have their own laws,I am curious if anyone here has passed the $15,000 mark for sales and how much tougher they get on regulations and laws ect.

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
Bees4, how would they know that u passed the 15,000 mark? Just sayin', I am about as anti government as one can be without being arrested, and with all the regulations on the books now, especially from the current president's government, we could all be arrested for something anyway.

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
Love New Mexico - no regulation or labeling on raw farm products. This includes honey!

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
I have not had anyone question the labels.

Re: Processed and prepared without state inspection
Could you Virginia beekeepers tell me where you get your labels or do you print them yourselves? Thanks.
