new beek advise on honey production in first year

I just did a complete hive inspection. my findings are 2 deeps with good brood patterns, plenty of pollin and honey stores. One medium full of caped honey and one medium with drawn comb and a small amount of uncaped honey. also found no evidance of hive beetles and sugar dusted for mites none on count sheet. My question is should i get any honey harvest after the summer season. i will be doing another complete inspection the first part of september to make sure that they have good stores for going into winter.

sounds like you're in pretty good shape. did you start from a package? a nuc? did you feed any syrup while they were storing and capping?

you are a bit south of me, but your flows are probably similar. they will probably use some of what is stored to get through the dry summer months. there should be another strong flow beginning late august and through september, maybe getting into early october.

i will probably harvest any capped honey that is in my hives in early september, and then let them have the fall honey for overwintering.

squarepeg, started with a nuc, and fed syrup for 4 week to get good comb started. looks like i have a good flow going on right now the garden is full of bee every day.

that was my thinking on tring to harvest in early september at my next complete inspection if they have good stores and the fall flow.

sounds like you've got some good bees and a good location. you should be able to harvest some honey this year. good job.
