pricing my honey for retail sales!

12oz bears are $4 wholesale and $4.69 retail

8 oz bottles are $3.25 wholesale and $3.49 retail

1 lb bottles are $5.25 wholesale and $5.79 retail

The retail prices where established by the retailer where I sell it and it seems that the retail price are the same as another beekeeper that sells there also.

What do u think about the prices?

Is it hard to find people that will carry it for such a low mark up?
I don't know but asking around everyone here seems to mark it up much more.

i have been working at a peach stand and we sell honey for 10$ a pint.
sell a few cases on the weekends and maybe 10 pints a day during the week

When your buyer establishes the price who is in charge? Who is going to be able to determine his profit?

Is this a real store or a small farm stand? Or what? Most stores that I deal w/ add 40% to 100% of the price at which I sell it to them to come up w/ their shelf price.

Yup, been a while since I looked into it but retail used to feel the need for at least a 35% profit margin. That means a minimum mark up of 53% from what they pay for an item.

Just got an OK to go in a tourist store here, it will be sold for 7 a 1/2 pint with 3.50 paid to us so it will work out about 7.00 per lb. I sell at the farmers market for 6.00 per lb.

Is it $7 per 1/2 pint or 1/2 lb? If 1/2 pint it would work out to $4.67/lb less the container cost.

What does a 12 oz bear come to as related to a pound. My uderstanding is that honey is heavier than water so 12 oz would not be 3/4 lb of honey. That said I've read on here were a guy sold his 12 oz bears for $8.00 last year and they flew off the shelf. The issue I have or question I have is the price comparison. Is this for raw honey or honey in the grocery store?

12 oz bears are sized to hold 12 oz of honey. One pound jars are the same (one lb of honey/jar). Using canning jars, you can get just under 3 lbs in a quart.

Wholesale prices seem to be a bit low. We wholesale to major stores and health food establishments at $7.00/lb with 24 in a case. Minimum order is three cases.

I wouldn't sell for that. I get $7 for a 1 lb. bottle.

I would not sell for that price, it is far too low. I get $10 per lb retail and would not take a dime less. I could sell it wholesale for less, but have no need since I sell it so quickly.

I'm new to selling, but I used the price that my mentor sells it for, which is $0.50/oz. I got about 2 gallons and sold most of it the first day(had to keep some for myself.)

It would help this discussion to distinguish between fluid ounces and weight ounces when stating pricing.

If it sold out in a day then my thoughts are that you sold WAY too low. I value my product and want others to also. I (my bees) make a great product!!! I'm not up to competing with the super market or whoever else. I'm competing with only the idea of having a lot of honey possibly left over after the season, but from what I'm reading that hasn't been a issue. People sell out fast. Customers DO value raw local honey. Just my 2c. fwiw.

The "locavore" movement has helped many of us with pricing. We wholesale for $7.00/l and retail for $10.00. However we are fortunate enough to have some large stores who buy quantity from us. I am shocked that some folks I know sell there honey for $1.90/lb wholesale. Perhaps when you have hundreds of thousands of pounds you can do that. I dont, and I cant.
