How can you tell the difference between propolis and comb
How can you tell the difference between propolis and comb
Comb is composed of hexagonal waxy cells. Propolis is sticky, shapeless goop.

Comb is the stuff bees put into the frames. Propolis is the stuff you put on everything you touch after checking your hives (tools, camera, steering wheel, shift lever, etc. etc.)

so say the burr comb that you see or the stuff bees make when they fill out the empty space in the hive is that propolis or comb

If you use word "comb" - it is not a propolis. Propolis is everything else except your hardware and honey/nectar/bees. Bees normally filled up space in two ways - using wax (comb) and using propolis. They used wax (comb) to fill up large spaces. They used propolis for small gaps, cracks etc. Propolis is considered to be a medicinal and used in of tincture. It is anti-imfamatory,antibacterial, cure burns, small wounds etc. It is quite expensive to buy.

Propolis- think "semi-dry snot" that seals up the small cracks of the hive.

Propolis is disgusting. It's like that really thick snot that sticks to something when you're just getting over a sinus infection. It's thick, it's goopy, and no matter what you do it won't wash off. My gloves are covered in propolis.
