Off to stock the mating nucs. Adding first cells tonight! Too much fun.

I'll be doing the same tomorrow. I'll only be making up about 12 but that's a lot for me.

Well, it is done. Did them by myself which takes some extra effort with all those boxes opened and frames leaning everywhere! So much easier with more than one person!!

What kind of mating nucs are you using? They look like maybe 8 frame boxes? I have been using 3 frame deep nucs. I just started my first set of mini nucs two weeks ago. Trying to decide which I like better before I make a bunch of one kind.

They are double nucs. 4 frames a side. They are primarily for overwintering but instead of building a bunch of dedicated mating nucs I take a frame out of them and a 1.5 gallon Pro Feeder from Mann Lake fits in nicely. So for mating they are 3 frame deeps and then for overwintering I can pull the feeder out and put the 4th frame in.

Wouldn't claim that this is the best way to do it. Just the way I am trying it this first year of grafting.

Hey could you walk me through how you set up your mating nucs? Did you just toss a frame of brood, two frames of honey and a queen cell in each nuc, did you leave them queenless for any amount of time before introducing the queen cell?
