Air Thick With Bees

I have three colonies in two hives, the first colony is 7 weeks old, started from a nuc. I have been adding new bars into the brood nest every week or so and haven't seen any queen cells. But today I look off my balcony and this is what I see.





I'm a little concerned. It has been three days of rain that just let up a few hours ago. Could they just be flying more as they see it's the only time to get out and get some food? I do feed them, about a quart of 3:2 syrup every day or every other day.

It has been three days of rain that just let up a few hours ago.

After more than a night of confinement (in this case, due to the rain), bees will re-orient upon emerging from the hive once they're released (when the rain finally broke). Thus you have all of your foragers taking off & circling a few times in the air at about the same time to "get their bearings" before going about their business.


Trimman- If you meant to say "orientation" flight, then you're dead-on right
