Will Paradichlorobenzene kill SHB or any larvae in stored comb?

PDB killed SHB for me but the concentration is higher than wax moths to be effective. BT just makes them laugh while they are eating.

Stored some supers that I thought were clear of SHB and any of their eggs or larvae. Much to my surprise, I soon noticed pupa crawling out from them. After looking I found small infestations of all ages. Washed them out and stored again, this time using PDB. That wiped them out.

So I guess I'm saying beware. Wax moths are not your only problems with stored supers. Altho I hate doing so, I don't think I'll store supers again without using PDB. Drawn comb is just too valuable and there is just no sure way of knowing that SHB (or their eggs) are not already in them.

Why use PDB when it is really difficult to air the comb long enough/well enough when you want to give it back to the bees. 24 hours in the freezer deals efficiently with wax moth and I'm fairly sure that SHB would seccumb as well.

So very true........if you have either a very large freezer or a small amount of comb. You don't know when you put the comb up if some SHB are hiding in there somewhere or have left their eggs to hatch......so PDB. I learned the hard way.....

I have put PDB stored combs onto a hive after airing it out for less than an hour without any problems. Rather air it out for 24 hours but sometimes you need a super right away!
