I'm just a hobbyist but I could see a problem if I had enough money and time. But if your retired and have nothing but time and money then yeah, thats what I would do with it. Its and addiction.

It looks to me like there are around 600 hives in there with stands for 150 more. That might keep you a little busy at times.

With that set up, what would he be selling more of.... bees and queens or honey? Or both?
The back hives would have to be worked from the front of the hives.
Can you imagine what the front of those leanto's look like when the bees are in full production mode! lol

I'm guessing that this is just a winter location. I can't imagine that there is enough nectar available in any one location to support that many colonies.

Maybe, but those hives are not set up in a way that would facilitate easy transportation. They are not on pallets, and it doesn't appear a forklift would be able to pick them up. Which would mean a person would likely have to pick up each hive and put it on a dolly or truck bed to move them. See how close those hives were positioned? Good luck getting a good grip other than the front of the bottom board near bee activity.

@Ralph: We keep 400 t0 500 to a yard in season when not feeding and even more if we are going to feed heavy out of barrels. Not all areas can do that but it is not and issue, it will force them to go farther for forage. Now if they do start robbing we will spread them out if it is to bad.

Is it just me or do they all look like the old Jumbo style hives? I am trying to find jumbo frame foundation.

I was trying to make out what is in that foggy field. looks like a young orchard to me. for a moment I thought I was grape stakes but I think it was just stakes to hold up small trees. Maybe someone way of not paying pollination fees.

There is a lot of money and labor invested in that overhanging shed. I wonder how many pounds of honey it took to pay it off? Does it give that much of a benefit, or is it tradition winning out over costing?

That is a lot of bees! Thanks for sharing that. I have often wondered how many I would dare to keep in a yard. I guess I will not worry about it!
