I messed with one a long time ago and found car coils too hard on batteries. Fence chargers have a different impedance characteristic.

Best bet would be to invest in low end fence charger. I have a cheapo I got for just over a $100 shipped and it's been working really well protecting my grapes from the deer.

On a side note, when cleaning a solar fence charger, even with the battery disconnected, make sure the switch is OFF and you DO NOT point the solar panel in the direction of full sun. LOL, don't ask me how I know.

I've read you can make really strong electric fence chargers from mircowave internals.....strong enough to actually keep out bears but you have to put up a secondary regular fence to keep the primary from killing too many deer.

What is the correct number of deer to kill?

Trying techniques that I doubt will work because I like to be right!
