Getting back to the beespace question...
I've heard Michael Bush describe triming down frames and fitting 11 frames into a 10 frame body (or was that 9 frames into an 8 frame body?).
Regardless, I've tried keeping frames close together (10 frames-end bar to end bar).
My own opinion is that it might have some advantages over 9 frames in a 10 frame body.
It could be more bees in less space or even a different microclimate.
Could this contribute to healthier hives? I can't say for sure, but it isn't too far fetched an idea.
