Is it recommeded to close SBB for MAQS because of heard venalation is very important when it comes to lowering brood loss and queen mortality

Yes, you will want to put in your debris tray to close the screen and have the front entrance full open. This will allow the vapor to more evenly spread, but allow the bees to ventilate in a more controlled fashion by directing airflow at the entrance. Checked our hives yesterday and the mite drop was tremendous--no visible brood or bee loss.

Here is some info from the co. that makes them. Says there is just a slight decrease in efectiveness with a screen bottom board. http://www.miteaway.com/uploads/3/0/...ugust_2011.pdf
