As a way of mitigating the public`s fear of honey bees, this presentation will focus on the need to educate the public and health officials on the importance of honey bees and their contribution to food production and the environment. The presenters will educate and inform on beekeeping in New Jersey, the biology of honey bees, yellow jackets, and wasps, their stinging behavior, and the risks of and with being stung.

The presentation will introduce the participants to the New Jersey Bee Association and its approach to beekeeping and handling of complaints from the community around bee infestation.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Understand the biology of bees and their development
• Discuss beekeeping and its best practices in New Jersey
• Explain the NJ Bee Associations approach to beekeeping and handling of bee complaints.
