    Default Ants and bees

When opening my hive to inspect the bees I noticed a bunch of ant on top of the bars. They are very small so I was wondering if the bees will be able to defend against them? Or if they will even the bees?

I'm about to try the following from advice of others:

Place cinnamon around the bottom of hive.

We haven't had a big ant problem, but we used cinnamon last year and it worked well. Michael Bush has something on his site where he mixes something (borax, maybe) with grape jelly. Check his site.

For the tiny ants, cinnamon works like a charm. I sprinkle it liberally over the top bars and down into the hive as well. Doesn't seem to bother the bees a bit, but gets rid of the ants.

For the bigger ants, keeping the off the hive stand (oil buckets, ant killer, etc) seems to be about the only solution. I'm glad I don't live in fire ant country.
