Split gone wrong?
Ok.... I had a hive with two deeps strong that was making queen cups. I waited until I saw queen cells either completed or filled with Royal Jelly, and then found the old queen, moved her to a new box and emulated a swarm.
Everything seemed to be going well. I checked the new split and saw the queen working away. The queen was laying brood in some of the new frames. I didn't see much nectar storage as knew we were going into a week of rain and figured they wouldn't be able to get out. So I placed a hive top feeder and a gallon of 1:1 syrup on. After the week of rain went by, I see in the old hive a new queen laying eggs and brood in a beautifully tight pattern. In the new split all I see is nectar / syrup.
The split is bustling with bees and they are as busy as ever (it seems). However, I couldn't find the queen or any sign of her. I also do not see any queen cups/supercedure cells. I took a frame of brood from the previous hive and placed it in the new spli
Now for the questions....
1.) Is it possible that I fed them too much and they stored the syrup and have no room for brood?
2.) Are they 'honey bound', and if so, how do I fix it?
3.) Did I jump the gun in moving the frame of young brood and eggs?
4.) Was the frame enough to save the hive?
5.) Should I give it more time?

Re: Split gone wrong?
You may have interrupted their supercedure plans or her highness intent on swarming left with a smaller posse without leaving an heir. I suggest introducing a frame or two of freshly laid eggs. If she's there, it won't matter. If not, you're giving them a chance to survive.

GREAT! Thanks for the quick response!

Re: Split gone wrong?
I have fed hives too much before and it seems like they really tightened their brood area so that they can store the syrup, and eventually they almost totally drown out the brood. I almost lost several hive because of this. I just had to really hold back on feeding for a while until the comb was basically empty, and the quenn was back into laying full swing again. It was a terrible setback! Now I only feed if I absolutely have to.
