anyone ever box in their top bars? I know it sounds odd, but I see problems in my future removing comb and the extra structure should make it more handleable.

Box in top bars? Do you mean make frames for them?
I don't make frames for mine. I use top bars. If I was gonna use frames
in a top bar hive, I'd just go with all Langs. Boxes and frames.
yes, make frames. I have a tbh made and the hive is growing with brood hatching already. I prefer to not move them if possible and not have comb breaking when inspecting. looking for a fix until the end of the year when I will put them in a lang.
A long serrated bread knife, working upward, will free them as necessary.
I honestly have to do this every other day. must have dimensions wrong or something. my pals with lang boxes dont have to do this.
Just put them in a Lang now then. You're still going to have to cut them off the bars later. Might as well do it while the combs
are newer and softer now.
I have one Warre hive, and I added side bars to prevent the combs from being attached to the walls so that they are moveable. It is required in the state of Ohio to facilitate inspections. I would be surprised if it is not also required in PA.
