Default New beekeeper in Ripon, CA

Hi, I'm Debra. I've had my hive for one week. I got it from a beekeeping friend who captured a swarm. I inspected it before I took it home, but haven't opened it up since. I did have to relocate it about 30' in my backyard, a few days after I first placed it. Poor planning on my part. But the move was successful thanks to the great information I got from reading the forums. It's an 8 frame medium, and as of last Saturday they'd nearly filled the box with brood and some nectar, so we added another box on top, but the frames in the new box are foundationless, so I'm not sure what to expect when I open it up this weekend to inspect it. The weather has been a little wacky, too. They are eating the diluted sugar water I am providing. I have so much to learn. I read a couple of books, but now suddenly have bees!

Welcome, neighbor! Sound like you have things well underway. Check your hive and stand for it's 'levelness', if using foundationless frames and the hive not being level; the comb built may be not aligned to the frame. Lucky you to have a beeMentor/friend!! I'm learning the ropes as I go; BeesourceDOTcom is my mentor!
