Just a new beekeeper wanting to drop in and introduce myself. I have just purchased my first hive in the past week and a half. It is an established hive from a big beekeeper in NW Pennsylvania. My current passion is making maple syrup. I have a small operation of 300 (but expanding to 500) taps. Have wanted to raise bees for many years and finally just bit the bullet. I would like to increase to 4-5 hives in the next couple of years. The lifecycle of the honeybee just amazes me. The potential diseases and problems that I have read about on here and in magazines is almost overwhelming, however. I am in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Welcome Heus! The diseases are not overwhelming and will not overwhelm your hive with good integrated pest management. The best thing you can do is keep the hive healthy with good nutrition and the right amount of space.
