Sure you CAN paint them with interior paint, but you wouldn't WANT to. Interior paint is not designed to stand up to the elements that a bee hive will be exposed to.
I use interior or exterior paint but I do paraffin wax dip them before painting, which helps to suck the paint into the wood (due to the high temp of the wax).
Yea painting them with interior would be a waste of time in my opinion, just head over to lowes and get some OOPS paint for 5 bucks a gallon and paint away....that is what I do anyhow.
