I had a extra bottom and a shallow box, I built a top and set it out between barn and my two hives. There are old frames that had honey in the from last year. Do I just leave it out there or should I bait it somehow?
In my humble opinion,,,,take the honey out, it will cause robbing from your other two hives. Just go buy some 100% lemon grass oil and drop a few ( about 4) drops in the box along with some frames with some old empty drawn comb. Built a nuc last week and did this very same thing (except I didn't have any old comb just old frames). Checked it today and already had bees going in and out. Will give it another day and should have a swarm ready to install.
Hey thanks, BTW the comb was empty no honey, I had spun that out last year (my first harvested honey)... ) I will get the lemon grass oil and give it a try
