I have never seen anything so stringy and gooey. Sunday we had a nice day so I figured I would do a quick peek. First hive no problem. Second the top deep I moved the two plastic frames and went to pull the drawn wooden frame and half the top bar came off. I got a hold of the frame sides and it felt like something was holding it below. It would stretch but not give. I figured I would pull the two deeps apart to see if they were bridged. Separated the fronts with the hive tool, to hinge the deep up and take a look under but it felt like the broken frame was sliding down from the top deep. The hive bodies would stretch but not give. When I went to lift them the bottom deep off completely it came off the base. Weird, is this normal for first spring inspection? I put the hive tool in my back pocket like always and it was like chewing gum when I went to get it out. It’s like a honey propolis mixture.
I did not want to tear the whole thing down until I could get a queen or get drones flying to let them make their own. We should have snow showers again today. Any suggestions?
