...yet still has the 3-inch opening just like the standard mason jars.
I've seen some very very old ones, antiques, maybe. Does anyone still make them? If so, a source?

I'm not sure, but I think I saw some in Ace Hardware when I was buying quart bottles.
Yard sales are your best bet, and even then, mostly 1/2 gallon size

1. Not sure the 1 gal. are made any more.
2. If you are thinking feeder, remember that the larger the jar, the less stable the balance becomes as the jar is wider and taller as to the size of the base that it the lid.

Ace sells half gallon sizes. That's the largest size I know of. They make great feeders.

I get pickle jars from 5 guys hamburger. As a norm they throw in trash.

Maybe the Thread Author didn't need to include the word "mason" in the title? You are simply looking for one gallon jars, right? They don't have to be Mason Brand jars at all, right? Many Restaurants get their pickles and other condiments in one gallon jars. Check them out as a supplier. They just throw them out. Many are plastic, which should be okay.

Mark, true assumption. I guess I'm seeking some normalcy (to describe constancy) in the mouth size. I contemplate drilling 2.5 inch holes in migratory covers, large enough to invert a jar with syrup.
I think the large mouth jars are too big for holes already (or contemplated to be) cut.
Thanks all for responding.

I have a friend w/ holes in his migratory covers the size of a G Mason Jar Lid. Like the 5 lb jar. He puts plastic buckets over those holes. Seems like you could put the jars you are looking for over them too.
