another similar Vermont story.
A few years ago, when my youngest was a junior in high school, someone began painting white rabbits on the highways around the county. One would show up in SAt. Albans, then Richford. Georgia and them Fairfield. Always in wide spread locations and always in the middle of the road.
Everyone wondered where these rabbits were coming from. Legalists wanted someone to pay. Some thought it was a riot. Letters to the editor claimed everything from they were a danger to they were destructive of puplic property, to vacationers who thought the incedents were about the funniest thing and thanked whomever it was painting white rabbits all over the counte. One ws dead center on a state highway. The line painters for the DPW actually turned off the paint so the rabbit wouldn't be painted over.
The United Way got ahold of it and turned it into a campaign...selling shirts and hats with the same outline as in the road. The whole thing turned into a hilarious joke.
One night, Gaelen...my daughter sits down next to me and says, "Dad, I have a confession to make". It was me and my friends painting the rabbits".
My heart swelled. You know, these kids could have been out tagging cars and buildings and vandalizing and snorting drugs, like so many seem to do now. This was simple clean fun that most everybody could appreciate, and hurt nothing.
The rabbits eventually disappeard and Gaelen and her friends went off to college.
Thanks Mike, That's a wonderful story.

Michael,
I can see why VT would have a cow, a pine tree, the mountains, but what are those other critters? Dogs? What?

Certainly some Mark. The Champlain Valley is dairy.
I believe the shield was drawn by Ira Allen in the 1700s. At that time the Valley was the bread basket of the colonies.
On main street Geneseo, NY there was a doughnut shop in the 80's. it happened to be on the fountain circle and there was a sign that said "Police Cars Only" . Someone took a pic & sent it to "Iron Horseman" magazine, they published it, that was funnee!
I think that people that are annoyed with the paintings on the road should use a little less starch in their skivvies!
