Default brewers yeast for protein patties

I was just reading about deactivating yeast before using in protein patties. I have a source for brewers yeast before it is used in the fermentation process. Is there a way I can decativate it before using? I thought I could just heat it would that work? Or can it be used as is?

    Thanks

You can search on here and find info you are looking for. I'm planning to make some pollen sub and was looking into this myself. Someone said to heat it to 100f and hold it there for a while, and it will deactivate the yeast. Someone else said they boil it for an hour...

boiling it will certainly kill the yeast, but 100F will not. Just speaking as a homebrewer...if I want to kill yeast, etc, I'll boil for ten minutes...

Is Mann Lake's yeast pure brewers yeast? Anyone have a comment about it? Seems to be the cheapest place to get it with the free shipping.
I already have a bag of their Bee pro, which the bees seemed to like just fine last year. I mixed it 50/5o with sugar, added cider vinegar, oil and hot water and the patties were very soft. Let it sit overnight and the consistancy was just right, like peanut butter cookie dough. But they sure get hard fast in the hive. I heard more brewers yeast in the mix keep them softer longer.
    Thanks in advance.

Previously I tried Bee Pro, then I tried Bee Pro mixed 50/50 with Nutri Brew brewer's yeast, also from Mann Lake. This season I tried Ultra Bee, but I don't like it as well as the 50/50 mix, so next I plan to return to the 50/50 Bee Pro/Nutri Brew mix.

FYI: soyflour is notorious for getting rock hard!

Think about it, adding more dry powder to a batch wil make the end product drier.
You have one item in your batch that will make the end product pliable.
Try using a HFCS to make your patties moist.

I keep my pollen sub patties moist, longer, by starting with dry sugar, thoroughly moistening the dry sugar with canola oil, then adding the other dry ingredients, and blending them with the sugar/oil, after all dry ingredients are thoroughly mixed with the oil, add warm sugar syrup until the desired consistency is achieved. Let rest for twelve hours or so, then make patties with waxed paper. I store the finished patties in stacks, inside ziploc bags and in the refrigerator.

Any down side to freezing these patties?

Down sides to freezing: 1) need to thaw before giving to bees; 2) eventually freezer burn may reduce useful quantity.

The brewers yeast I have been using came from a baking supplier (I neither heated nor froze it..it did not bubble and froth when I mixed the stuff up)...mixed it with soy flour and skim milk powder then added sugar syrup. Went together well...bees eat it up. Hope it is OK to use
