Spring is very early here this year. On the US Canada border (48 degrees north, about 90 degrees 45 minutes west) the snow is almost gone now. The first willows started budding April 5th and they are in full bloom now. The tag alders were supplying pollen on April 5th as well. That was the first day the bees brought anything in. We are way ahead of last year which was cold all the way til the first week of June, which was the last snow. I guess it's global warming.

After 4 warm sunny days the pussy willows started to open today. Salix bebbsiana, maybe. Some kinda salix, anyhow. Can't really see any pollen on 'em yet but it's too cold and wet for the bees to fly anyhow.

Up on the international border here, nearest US zipcode is 55731, nearest Canadian post office is P0T 1C0

Maybe the hazelnut is coming soon.

First dandelions next to buildings this week--pussy willow also--crocus next to house--and tag alders....no pollen on any of it yet, but this week things should break loose---Probably tag alder will be the first to produce pollen...Bees are looking...zip 56649 canadian boarder.

7/7/15 Basswood, Milkweed. Bees are ignoring the basswood, milkweed, and still on the trefoil and clover.

    What is needed:

    •zip code, city or county
•date when the plant first bloomed
    •name of the plant
•comments - example: if it was the end of the bloom just add that to the comments
