Ever since I first saw that performance I wondered how they did it w/out getting stung a lot more than they did. I first thought that they only used drones, but on closer viewing one can see that they are worker bees. What's the secret?

It was probably very handy to have fluorescent lights close by.

I would not do that unless I had a bee suit on. I was feeling nervous for them. Even a single sting in the eye can be serious.

Er, do a search for "Penn and Teller Bee Trick" on youtube. There's a video where Penn talks about the trick. I would rate it "R" for foul language. It goes into just a little detail about the trick and mostly is about Penn's "allergic" reaction...

    NOT a family video...

THose were not bees in a colony. They were totally disoriented, probably selected non aggressive baby nurse bees and I am sure they were sprayed with syrup a reasonable time before the engagement. I have been more crawled on by bees in a honey house! Yes they got stung, but tigers can kill you.

I didn't view the above link but I vote for a little cold air or else C02 to calm them down a bit before the trick started. Then P & T may have kept the bees in the dark untill the stunt got under way.
