I was very bummed to learn that the treatment of choice against the emerald ash borer is systemic neonicotinoids: mainly imidacloprid, the very thing that's been identified as causing harm to honeybees. Ugh. It's a terrible choice, between keeping ash trees alive and preventing harm to bees. As much as I hate to see the ash trees go, it seems crazy to keep using neonicotinoids when they are known to kill any larvae that eat the leaves, as well as the harm to those that ingest the pollen.
