    Default HFCS gone bad?

Hello, I have about a quarter tote of HFCS/water/pro health mix that did not get used up this spring. I was reading Randy Oliver's site and he states that when kept to warm if forms HMF. Any idea on what to warm means? We hit 90 almost every day all summer. Thanks

Are you talking about a 275 gallon tote. The ones that are like 4'x4'. I was going to say when in doubt toss it out but that's allot of money. I wish you the best.

I would pour in hot water. I take my tractor with forks. Strap the tote to the bucket so it cant fall off and shake the crap out of it. That is how I make my 275 gallon mixer. My tote crystallized all up on me this year so that is what I did. You can get a heating blanket for 2k and warm it up. Or just pour hot water in and shake.

Have you tasted it.? Does it taste bad.?

Call Randy or email him at Randy@randyoliver.com
I have his personal number but I not sure I should give it out here, I can call him for you.
When in doubt dump 1/4 tote = 70 gallons not worth it.

Has it changed color at all? I think if it's still water white it will be ok. Doesn't HMF turn the syrup a light shade of brown?

With the heat you guys get and the fact that it is already diluted... I wonder if it isn't already fermented. Yea ..tast it... you can tell. If it tastes ok and doesn't have a tan hue I would feed a few hives and see.

Speaking solely towards the syrup, we routinely use syrup that has been kept from spring to fall or vise versa. 10% water is enough to keep it from granulating but not enough to start fermentation. If it is clear and doesn't taste winey it should be fine. I am not sure what added effects, if any, the pro health would have. We get pretty warm here in summer and never had a problem with spring syrup/water mix fed in the fall.
