    Default Not Using Comb

I made two nucs from a queenless hive in June.

The original hive belonged to an elderly beekeeper who passed away last year.

The original frames are probably years old, and very black.

One of the nucs is drawing out foundation, but leaving two of the old original frames totally empty.

Do the bees think there is something wrong with these old frames?

    Should I remove them?

Mine did just the opposite -- I had one old frame from a hive that died, and they use that one over all the others.

Is there brood in the new comb, or just honey?

when combs are not used for years they dry out and are sometimes worthless as far as the bees are concerned.
