I am a beekeeper in Moab,Utah, a very dry area. My bees are located next to a very large alfalfa field and the owner lets the field stay in bloom for a few weeks between cutting. If you walk out into the field it is loaded with bees. Earlier in the summer the bees were bringing in nectar from this field but currently they are working the alfalfa but are not bringing nuch into the hives. Is it possible that the alfalfa can be in bloom but not produce nectar? This is an irrigated field.
