Greetings! First year beek from St. Louis area. Our lone TBH failed in late August after our apparently improperly mated Russian queen turned drone-layer, and we didn't catch the problem until it was too late/too few workers to be able to requeen. Learned lots of valuable lessons and will try again (with two hives) in the spring.
Question - there are four bars of drawn comb in the hive. Has a little capped honey and pollen. Can the bars of comb be saved for next spring's packages to use, to give them a head start? Will they clean out the remains of brood? How should I store it (in a hygienic manner, envisioning little rotting larvae corpses...)?
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
