Default please post first white wax 2013

from daniel y > "The claim that bees will not draw foundation came from Walt in his booklet Nectar Management. and was specifically claimed due to the lack of wax makers."

this is an interesting topic and worthy of it's own thread.

i'm guessing temperature and nectar availability factor in as well.

Have it here! Bees are drawing foundation in the first of two supers I put on the warre last Friday. Would have added sooner but it was too cold at night. Broodnest looks much more spacious now too. Flow started in earnest last Saturday when it finally warmed up a little.

Hopefully I've avoided the swarm monster I had last year. I think the idea of only nadiring warres is fundamentally flawed when getting a good honey harvest is the goal (at least here where the spring flow is intense for 2-3 months only and the fall flow sometimes non-existant).

Yesterday I had white wax on all of the new frames with new foundation. Checker boarded Saturday, one hive has 4 frames built out now. The other hive is working it up. Central Indiana

    many thanks for the replies.

no new wax seen here yet as of last weekend.

i have only put on supers of drawn comb so far, but will likely add some frames of foundation this weekend.

the nectar flow is strengthening day by day, and we will soon be in our main flow.

I put a brand new drone frame into the hives a week ago sunday. When I checked on this last sunday, it was fully drawn in the one hive I opened. Not just a part of it, both sides, fully drawn, all fresh new white wax. Interesting bit, it's on one side of the brood nest, second story. The frame next to it is full of capped brood, but, queen has not laid one egg in the new drone cells.

Cool Re: please post first white wax 2013

I have nucs with two new frames drawn and capped. Package bees have been in the nuc for 3+ weeks. Looking for nice weather to make my first splits from them. 2-3 gallons of syrup makes a lot of nice white beeswax.
