Default How big is the flashing?

I want to put aluminum flashing on my hive tops, but I don't see where a dimension is for it. Could you be so kind as to give me the size flashing I should be cutting from?
    Thanks, LtlWilli

I buy the 20" wide rolls from Lowes or HD. Come in 10' and 50' long. becarful when you open the roll. The metal will want to unroll.
Measure your hive tops, front to back & side to side. That will tell you what you can use. A hand held metal bender helps too.

Can you beat down the sides with a rubber mallet instead of a metal bender?

Go to your local newspaper office and buy the used aluminum newsprint sheets they use on their presses. About a buck apiece and are more than big enough to cover the top. Clean them up , trim and staple on. Very easy to work.

I use the 24 inch wide flashing. I let it turn down about 1 inch all the way around. Have to trim about 3 inches off the side and then bend it down with a rubber mallet and staple with air gun.

Dadant will sell you just the galvanized steel sheet to cover a roof, but you must make your roofs to the same dimension that they do, because they come prebent and predrilled.
Aluminum does not hold up nearly as well.

That's what I'm using now. I don't really mind paying $7.00 a piece because they're thick and sturdy but when you add shipping, it kinda sucks . I wish Mann Lake sold them, then it would be free shipping!!

Check the price of 100 shipped freight. For me it was not too bad, but then I am only 250? miles from Hamilton.

Yes, that's how I've done mine in the past. I recently bought a bender from grizzly, but haven't made any more covers yet.

Do a Search I also think it may be Barry
any way some made a Bender by putting a thin
cut on the corner of a 2X4 you put the tin in it and
    Bend
Its like have your on Tin Brake
The cut is right on the 90 of the 2x4

Get one of these http://www.harborfreight.com/36-inch...and-91012.html or get your club to get one for everyone to borrow. It is cheap enough especially if you use a 20-25% discount coupon. Every job deserves a new tool.
