I brought the barrel home and drilled a hole in the top and drove the bees up into a hive body using lots of smoke and tapping on the side of the barrel.

Then I put a board with a hole in it on top of the barrel, a queen excluder, then replaced the hive body. On the second try I managed to get the queen into the hive body. There was some comb in the barrel that the bees are still tending so I'm assuming there is some brood in there, we'll see?

The cool thing is the whole set up is right outside my living room window.
