    Default Hello from Vermont USA

Hello all. Thanks for a great website. It's a real hive of knowledge & has been a great help to start me off in beekeeping. This is my first attempt at beekeeping & I'm using a KTBH.

I have installed a bee package 4 days ago in my KTBH & I'm a little concerned as to the bees activity. I know it is late in the season for new bees but the package was given to me for free from one of my customers. I have been observing them closely over the past 4 days & most of their behavior seems normal from what I read. Flying in curcles, feeding on sugar syrup, fanning the hive entrance, emptying out dead bees & other debris. The pressing concern I do have is they haven't started foraging for nector or pollin.
I read also that the young girls need a combination of sugar syrup/honey/nector in order to produce wax, which in a KTBH is needed more so than a Langs. I supplied the first two to give them as much of a chance as possable. I've been checking flowers for signs of honey bees but haven't see any on the flowers yet.

I inspected the hive last night from underneath & the cluster was towards the back & on one side & I could see no wax comb on any of the bars.
Should I be concernd or is it early days yet?

    Hey there Jeremy,

I went to High School in Cabot, Vermont. My Dad lives in Hyde Park (between Morrisville and Johnson). He keeps bees too. Welcome.

    Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. My bee have started. I had a quick look the other night & saw 5 or 6 combs being drawn out. They are in the right direction to, which is a bonus.

Adam, I live just down the road a bit from your Dad, in Jeffersonville.
