Default Sun light vs. Shade for hive production

Last year was my first year with bees. I had 4 hives. Three were in the shade most of the day and one was in full sunlight except for one hour in the evening. The three in the shade did not build up very much at all and the ones in full sun were exploding with bees. I have a similar situation this year. Is this just a coincidence or do bees do better in full sun. We don't have a worry here with shb so the shade is ok for that.

This is my first year and I have one hive facing Southeast with no shade. I am using foundationless frames. They are thriving and building comb in a second deep after 6 weeks.
So far, full sun is working for me!

My top bar is full sun except for about 2 hours in the evening.
I think full sun will get them around earlier (sun in the window always gets me up)
It will help with beetles and ants
It will help if you have much rain to dry the hive (I was getting mold until I got more sun and a better draft on mine.
